03/23/13 is D Day!

Image
Today, I celebrate my 23rd birthday for the 11th time ! That is to say, t oday marks the 33rd anniversary of my coming into this beautiful world! Today, I celebrate my Personal New Year and remember the things that I've always wanted to achieve so that I can remind myself to keep going for the things I've been working hard for and to start going for the things I've always wanted to work on but never really got to. Today, I remind myself of the things that truly make me happy. Today, I will remind myself of the things I should be thankful for. Today, I make a toast to my life and all the wonderful gifts God has given me throughout the years! Today, I celebrate my parents, my family, my friends, my students-- my loved ones all! Today, I celebrate myself! Today is my day! I've always considered March 23 a very nice day not just because it is my birthday, but also because of the combination 3-2-3. I can't really explain it, but I just really like the combination....

The Taboan 2013 Experience

Image
What exactly is Taboan ? Well, literally, taboan is the Visayan word for market and according to cebu.sandayong.com , it is a marketplace where farmers and fishermen meet together to sell their harvests and other goods; it is a barter area. But, this word has come to have a new meaning after the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), as part of the celebration of National Arts Month , used it to refer to one of the country's biggest literary festivals. It is, indeed, an event where writers, artists, teachers, students, and lovers of literature from all over the country converge and exchange ideas about issues and concerns of and in the world of Philippine literature. Taboan as Philippine Writers Festival started in 2009 and it has been held annually since. It has gone around the Philippines as it has been held in Manila in 2009, Cebu in 2010, Davao in 2011, Pampanga in 2012, and Dumaguete this year. Hopefully, it will be brought back to Mindanao next year. ...

Looking Forward, 2013!!!

Image
Salaam, everyone! How's 2013 treating you so far? I hope all's well with all of you and I hope more blessings come to everyone of us as the days of the year pass. So far, everything's been good from my side. I've gotten sick, but I'm better now and ready to rock and roll! Haha! Happy rockin' and rollin' in 2013, my friends! :) ************ It's already 5:11 am in my watch and I haven't slept a wink yet. I don't know. Sleep hasn't been very nice to me lately. I guess I overslept when I got sick so my body is making up for all those times I lost oversleeping and all! I'm awake more than usual these days and I've been busy trying to come up with topics I could work on as I trudge through my graduate classes this semester. Two important papers are due this weekend and, honestly, all I've done is think of interesting topics and write five (three for the first one, two for the other one) different introductory parts! Being so inte...

Pre-2013 Thoughts

Image
Hi-llo, readers! It's that time of the year again! The end has come yet again! We only have two days left of 2012 and I'm very excited for 2013 to start. I've said it once and I'm going to say it again, what kind of year the coming year will be really depends on us. If we want the year to be a good and happy one, we just have to decide to be happy and strive to have a good year. No amount of round fruits on the table or polka dot-wearing will ensure us of monetary luck if we don't do our part to earn some money throughout the year! And, please! No amount of jumping up and down will make us taller if we are past our 18th year (or is it 21st?)! Ha! I'm not saying that these practices and other ones like these should be ignored or something, I'm just saying that we can't just rely on these things alone to ensure us a better year. It really is up to us! So, let's, everybody, pray for and decide to have a better, happier and more meaningful 2013! Cheer...

Hard Times... and a Little Surprise!

Image
I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! So much has happened since my last entry, a whole semester has passed since! A very busy one at that! Our college has a new set of officials (dean, assistant dean, and secretary), and since the past few months were the first for this new leadership, there's been a lot of adjustment and so many things to do. It has been great so far! I'm looking forward to greater times for our college, and most especially for our students. They are, after all, the most important people in the College if you ask me; thus they should be our top priority. Being the chairperson of the Committee on Student Affairs , I am tasked to make sure that is the case. Oh, well, anyway, I don't really want to talk about my job at the moment. *** So, what's been going on with me lately? Well, lots of things have come and passed. Things, both good and bad! In fact, very recently, our university has been beset by things so dreadful and unimaginable that e...

Reconnection and Rebirth

Summer's done! I can't believe it! Where have the days gone? Haha! It's amazing how summers feel shorter and shorter as one ages. I remember when I was a kid, summer used to last a loooong time! And then, High School came, summers became shorter. And then, college and so on! Now, summer feels like just a few days. So much to do, so little time! I guess that explains it.  So, what have I been up to the whole summer vacation? Well, I didn't take summer classes for MA and neither did I handle summer classes in the Department or in the Pre-University Center. So, I got to relax the whole summer. Relax and reflect. I didn't go out as much I am used to, which, I think, was good for me. I basically stayed home and read. And, watched a LOT of Glee ! I've been watching the series since 2009, religiously downloading episodes week after week after week. And, this summer, I got to watch all the episodes all over again and I got to go back to my favorite musical numbers d...

Summer!!!

Image
Alhamdulillah! My semester is officially over! I had submitted my last requirement for graduate school last Saturday. And, I had submitted all my grades the day before yesterday. I can now finally welcome the much needed summer break! Weeee! No, actually, I'm still thinking what to do for summer. Will I handle summer courses? Will I just stay home? Will I travel? Well, the last option sounds great, yes, but I'm not sure I can do that. I have no savings at the moment, that's why! So, I guess traveling has to wait. That leaves me with two options then: to handle summer classes or to stay at home and relax. Truth is I have worked myself to exhaustion and maximum stress level this academic year, especially this semester and I just really feel I need to rest. Also, there were a lot of things and recent changes in my life that almost brought me down. More than any other time, I feel the need to recharge! And, besides, I need to update my notes for my classes, too. Oooh, and the b...
