Sad Ramadhan...

Salaam! (Peace!)

A lot of things have been happening in some of our neighbor municipalities and cities. Things that have caused panic and paranoia all over Mindanao.

The past few days, we've been waking up to the sound of helicopters flying around us. Of course, everyone knows how, in some parts of Mindanao, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have been killing one another off (a lot of deaths are not reported). As a result, thousands of innocent civilians are driven out of their homes. The sad thing about this is that for the Muslim civilians, they're fasting and doing all sorts of sacrifice in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

Ramadhan is supposed to be a month of peace, reconciliation and forgiveness. But, what's happening in some parts of Mindanao is the total opposite. It's such a sad, sad plight these civilians- Muslims, Christians and Lumads alike- have. I cannot imagine being in the same situation, especially not during this month.

I join many Muslims, Christians and Lumads in the call for our government to go back to peace talks/negotiations. We are not asking for this for the sake of the rebels or the government forces or for anyone else, we are asking for this for the sake of the real victims of this war-- the innocent civilians!

In my area (Marawi City, Lanao del Sur), we are not exactly affected by this war. God be praised! It's "business as usual" for most of us, especially here in MSU. But, the question I'm afraid to ask is: until when will this "peace" last? I sure hope we don't end up like our fellow Mindanaoans who are now suffering because of something that most people, even here in Mindanao, don't really understand.

I will not pretend to be very much knowledgeable about the cause of these senseless fighting and deaths. Sure, I can say a thing or two about the issue at hand, but there are some things that just make up one big puzzle in my mind. What I do understand, though, is that the civilians are the ones really suffering! And, I know that they do not deserve this! WE DO NOT DESERVE THIS!

Please help us pray for Mindanao and for the Philippines as a whole.

To everyone, Ramadhan kareem! :)

hi, babypink. the civilians became the sacrificial lambs it seems. it is so cruel for those people to do such horrible acts of violence.

i pray that the whole thing will be over. and even if we are not directly affected, we cannot help but be affected.
